It's been a very long time, I have been wanting to come back for ages but knew it would be a hassle and it was!
Anyway enough of my waffle.
Tomten Village has arrived and this time its not just fabric, there are placemats, bunting, cushion covers, stockings and a beautiful advent calendar.<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLLvJtZ77V2l52ciByWU88Ee3j1RijjdRAV-ZV13Xdof9FFias86i5SegG-ZD59hN__cWKukXJ63ihGLqwmU5xPEflNCMiLfwA8lddqsBk2BiBm1-FUxewIC5ns76B5Jdsv9bANCtffZbLrmI-s3GKI-aXOTVtelrwfgtgOKIN3k5A5UUUnN4Y6-7ZUg/s4032/tomten%20village.jpg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" height="320" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLLvJtZ77V2l52ciByWU88Ee3j1RijjdRAV-ZV13Xdof9FFias86i5SegG-ZD59hN__cWKukXJ63ihGLqwmU5xPEflNCMiLfwA8lddqsBk2BiBm1-FUxewIC5ns76B5Jdsv9bANCtffZbLrmI-s3GKI-aXOTVtelrwfgtgOKIN3k5A5UUUnN4Y6-7ZUg/s320/tomten%20village.jpg"/></a></div>
The Advent Calendar and the placemats do not have instructions so I decided to make them and put the instructions on here.<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj41DjQKYwFdJQZ1dvT7EonkWAXTOIXU7BkfLZoxVp3jV4xKNTvkyJXOaSEAjZzMDPHSLIbva4N7uhVXlBu5O6HolBgplXii9giAr_OUUzrGL65XWx-6ceAzHtU9rLfYDdeJdPL90lT6ZGEQ9YadUMqsC9tqjiZJJSDBUFqge577DRgcXZqgkEqq2qtsw/s4032/IMG_7431.HEIC" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" height="320" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj41DjQKYwFdJQZ1dvT7EonkWAXTOIXU7BkfLZoxVp3jV4xKNTvkyJXOaSEAjZzMDPHSLIbva4N7uhVXlBu5O6HolBgplXii9giAr_OUUzrGL65XWx-6ceAzHtU9rLfYDdeJdPL90lT6ZGEQ9YadUMqsC9tqjiZJJSDBUFqge577DRgcXZqgkEqq2qtsw/s320/IMG_7431.HEIC"/></a></div>
I first pressed the advent panel.
Cut the panel pockets out leaving a quarter inch seam allowance.
Press the sides of each pocket over to hide raw ends and then the top and bottom.
Stitch the top hem down.
Decide on the order in which the pockets are placed. I wanted random. I then pinned them to the backing panel and stitched each pocket down. I started at one side and did the bottom and then the other side leaving the top open.<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOdWfN1JUWfrjS_GSbQsgBKdbhlPjltbjOkE0J70ai5sRco1mcocP4MP3GUHZRuW0Bmz6cTxo6g63D7nrsJ6dNIXWf8ZSlMss9pwaEtGhIKpGRXyfMSTpqWU-9URiDx65N_SUKq4JKKtfkXUPz2AW_2uhCHK26Gx5o6aDWWBL2kibXY9dc0BjmNcQ4tQ/s4032/IMG_7385.HEIC" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" height="320" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOdWfN1JUWfrjS_GSbQsgBKdbhlPjltbjOkE0J70ai5sRco1mcocP4MP3GUHZRuW0Bmz6cTxo6g63D7nrsJ6dNIXWf8ZSlMss9pwaEtGhIKpGRXyfMSTpqWU-9URiDx65N_SUKq4JKKtfkXUPz2AW_2uhCHK26Gx5o6aDWWBL2kibXY9dc0BjmNcQ4tQ/s320/IMG_7385.HEIC"/></a></div>
Once all the pockets are stitch to the backing panel I then made it into a quilt sandwich.
I added wadding and picked Tomten Village houses to have on the back. I made a quilt sandwhich. House fabric facing down, added the wadding and then added the advent top. I decided to quilt it with a star stitch along each of the pocket rows. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgut66mBYGaVJ0Fohed8Rk74StWZFKubbf1ypYXkH4OPQQOQ1_cxXxM8i3sInMGeLTS70W7FT6HBDtvnaCSCG10erayyga3DjvEQy5lYqyBWGC3cOgD7igob-EAEzJPTUDRI3hHucMc6yHjFg_TUb7n26sHV70nCEBPrkzkgooARITdoSGypWeSXjOmXg/s4032/IMG_7415.HEIC" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" height="320" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgut66mBYGaVJ0Fohed8Rk74StWZFKubbf1ypYXkH4OPQQOQ1_cxXxM8i3sInMGeLTS70W7FT6HBDtvnaCSCG10erayyga3DjvEQy5lYqyBWGC3cOgD7igob-EAEzJPTUDRI3hHucMc6yHjFg_TUb7n26sHV70nCEBPrkzkgooARITdoSGypWeSXjOmXg/s320/IMG_7415.HEIC"/></a></div>
Once it was quilted I trimmed the advent around the edges and the picked a binding fabric. Liberty Wiltshire in Ruby picked out the red of the Tomten coat.
I added a tube of fabric on the back so I can add some dowling to hang the advent up
I always like to machine sew the first part of the binding down and then hand sew the second part as I hate seeing stitches showing on the front side. I love the process of finally sitting down with a cuppa and gently sewing the binding on and admiring my work!<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV8TIVTMBRzEq-53CQJS0-TCWBFHB82DPRHIo7ApSFu21byshy6YesaUWNT9vxMkojWO2w_xC_z1wFtGDSUUFHi2s5YDnExZhGqjuyV4MgKZNrlwTSlSBkMFJeTyP45XaM79O-rXwUeH08KIuDjTZBB3A7AP6z-yL1MNyRq0VBxQTabgcVHgzpbxJsxQ/s4032/IMG_7429.HEIC" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" height="320" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV8TIVTMBRzEq-53CQJS0-TCWBFHB82DPRHIo7ApSFu21byshy6YesaUWNT9vxMkojWO2w_xC_z1wFtGDSUUFHi2s5YDnExZhGqjuyV4MgKZNrlwTSlSBkMFJeTyP45XaM79O-rXwUeH08KIuDjTZBB3A7AP6z-yL1MNyRq0VBxQTabgcVHgzpbxJsxQ/s320/IMG_7429.HEIC"/></a></div>
I just need to fill it with treats for advent now!
The placemats were just like mini quilts. I added Star fabric border to each placemat as I wanted the placemats larger. I then added wadding and backing fabric and then quilted in the ditch on each mat. If I wasn't pushed for time I would have liked to have quilted around the different images on each mat. I couldn't decide on binding. I had picked out stripe fabric in red and then a spot fabric. In the end I decided to do three in each. The mats are all finished now and will be used for Christmas.<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGMQLF9gMGCT_5yJIK0i35zocx6F1wUrwYKU7M00Fg5-43lUWc1lqUj_3ef7rFdsBmlHkt7glckD4K2auOPa82dtZ2CsHY7c6J6OrV6UXcxAiNjfcZ9e7yiq0Pa3fYgTDMD7Vs8oYjFRqZqT8J3MfrP-5oRPc7-cKFQsiq4ZrJy_28jQD8RAupgV-Vgg/s4032/IMG_7553.HEIC" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" height="320" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGMQLF9gMGCT_5yJIK0i35zocx6F1wUrwYKU7M00Fg5-43lUWc1lqUj_3ef7rFdsBmlHkt7glckD4K2auOPa82dtZ2CsHY7c6J6OrV6UXcxAiNjfcZ9e7yiq0Pa3fYgTDMD7Vs8oYjFRqZqT8J3MfrP-5oRPc7-cKFQsiq4ZrJy_28jQD8RAupgV-Vgg/s320/IMG_7553.HEIC"/></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhC_LsnScxCC-P7ysKb1M9m1xjQqJDqfjXBMSSYdQ-sgiOX3eBiAbe1475Ak0PDBsqCtPz-HG0y_NQiTLU1xXDrFHH7f2XTCYb7P9e_qp1Yog-J8iZHAFdILCVOlqMathc5KI73BnzOLjwZUUL4PXN1eBwZcUzfi2hvUjcOJ-JnJoQoUO_lkNK5fSYoCg/s3022/IMG_7529.heic" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" width="320" data-original-height="2677" data-original-width="3022" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhC_LsnScxCC-P7ysKb1M9m1xjQqJDqfjXBMSSYdQ-sgiOX3eBiAbe1475Ak0PDBsqCtPz-HG0y_NQiTLU1xXDrFHH7f2XTCYb7P9e_qp1Yog-J8iZHAFdILCVOlqMathc5KI73BnzOLjwZUUL4PXN1eBwZcUzfi2hvUjcOJ-JnJoQoUO_lkNK5fSYoCg/s320/IMG_7529.heic"/></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj04Ura7ay8ZoKCGPnx-jXZ2liswdl_ckNJLpl3g1fQtW7mcrBJG-j6lu1RMsZCn4jtCTLnbJaFwQFh8lwoTCoevtucWwhsHm6pRT8ZuDx43feIpzsJv7AN8K4q1xNFYbkF2u4c5qTpGe7HZ4gBQ_B85TdzgIAk6s3KtqiJfJ8I9n-v45RwEjGSU0fROw/s3022/IMG_7529.heic" <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvPqDy-K5uacTyh3Z0zwdhhj7Q0cPkvKnN41Zw4JwNq7wjaHo2Rt8HevXAPa02OrTCxtEeJEUIdLDJMXjARUkIATlphftBzixhpMBV0aS2HhpegLgcQb_mKcOlQyxFYzZd-LtXxAwzrgj8vviJPLObHdt3TY-Z7TSzviDCMs2QrUo4UXWg03dFBPvTMg/s4032/IMG_7542.HEIC" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" height="320" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvPqDy-K5uacTyh3Z0zwdhhj7Q0cPkvKnN41Zw4JwNq7wjaHo2Rt8HevXAPa02OrTCxtEeJEUIdLDJMXjARUkIATlphftBzixhpMBV0aS2HhpegLgcQb_mKcOlQyxFYzZd-LtXxAwzrgj8vviJPLObHdt3TY-Z7TSzviDCMs2QrUo4UXWg03dFBPvTMg/s320/IMG_7542.HEIC"/></a></div>
I started writing this over 6 weeks ago and have only got round to pressing publish!
I will say bye for now and I'm hoping to post another blog next week.
Wishing you a lovely start to Advent.
Take care, much love xx Sally of You,me and Mabelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09002553536109061241noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1804573083623549493.post-40591250288801813142019-04-16T07:32:00.000-07:002019-04-16T08:30:20.147-07:00<b>Hello, Well I have dusted this blog after it took me about an hour trying to get back into it!
Everything has changed so it will be trial and error and a huge amount of reading so I can make this blog interesting!</b>
It would be impossible for me to talk about everything that has happened since I last posted on here so I'm just going to start a fresh.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5r3ii-ev_-auNoaIO77CqFGhsGMLhIYjrUA_Awj2O9MbAz0xqpziOHPPDsWAnrsLtylPsxfga9XHr8NfwPOXKFkCXh3xo4yfGuc1pqaQrpIzNqk6oatu_NyPQKJeX25amvplr5Wo0FI2s/s1600/Easter+treat.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5r3ii-ev_-auNoaIO77CqFGhsGMLhIYjrUA_Awj2O9MbAz0xqpziOHPPDsWAnrsLtylPsxfga9XHr8NfwPOXKFkCXh3xo4yfGuc1pqaQrpIzNqk6oatu_NyPQKJeX25amvplr5Wo0FI2s/s320/Easter+treat.jpg" width="320" height="320" data-original-width="1200" data-original-height="1200" /></a></div>
You me and Mabel has been growing and lots of new fabrics have been added. Stu and I did a pop up shop at the weekend which was really good fun. Unfortunately I forgot to take any photos!
I'm going to keep this post short for now (not sure if it will publish) I want to wish you a lovely Easter if you celebrate it, and wishing everyone a lovely four day weekend if you are lucky enough to be off work, the weather looks like it is going to be good. I plan to garden and get lots of jobs done, as Stu is working most of it. Happy Sewing! Hello, I'm back! I have been meaning to blog so many times but for some reason me and blogging just couldn't meet up together. But now I'm back and I am going to try and blog more regularly and show all the things I have been up too, and all the lovely fabrics that are arriving here at You me and Mabel.<br />
<br />
Firstly I had to share a photo of a beautiful Allium from my garden. We planted the bulbs last year and we have eight of the beauties smiling away in the garden. Can you see the Bumble Bee? When it's not rainy I love sitting outside and watching them. Such busy little bees.<br />

<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have lots to write about and will post all about Summer soon but for now I'm jumping straight into Christmas! Well not actually but Christmas Sewing and getting prepared. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Festive Friends by Dashwood Studio (<a href="http://dashwoodstudio.com/collections/">dashwoodstudio.com</a>) designed by Aless Baylis is a cute cheerful advent calendar that can be made and used year after year.</div>
<div>
It comes as a panel with instructions on it, <span style="color: #073763;">(in blue)</span> It's available on my website <a href="http://youmeandmabel.co.uk/">youmeandmabel.co.uk</a> with lots of gorgeous co-coordinating fabric too!</div>
<div>
The instructions written remind me a little of a technical challenge on The Great British Bake Off! They are there but if you have not made one before or have limited sewing knowledge you might struggle with it a little!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have included lots of photos to help along the way. The photos aren't the greatest as when I made the calendar it was a dark grey rainy day so lighting wasn't the best and I'm not a processional photographer.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Okay lets get going.</div>
<div>
Grab a cuppa and a biscuit, remember to enjoy sewing and it doesn't have to be perfect so have fun with it.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #0b5394;">1, Cut out the back panel following the outer of the green seam allowance.</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I gave the panel a press to start with and then used my rotary cutter so I got nice straight edges, scissors are fine if you don't own a cutter.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhB8BAWcuf7rgTiIaLX8xdRRG6W7PE3PBQ3BkctAe9YU-WqbZYc6PiQi-hPE-EyW4bHPai7o_1K9f3TsDtn2tlvGP4xaj2Ze3LwDh_BEbHkPD6LP1n1gQ2uB7swCtIXeCMD6xa1fhy8mrM/s1600/IMG_3520.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhB8BAWcuf7rgTiIaLX8xdRRG6W7PE3PBQ3BkctAe9YU-WqbZYc6PiQi-hPE-EyW4bHPai7o_1K9f3TsDtn2tlvGP4xaj2Ze3LwDh_BEbHkPD6LP1n1gQ2uB7swCtIXeCMD6xa1fhy8mrM/s320/IMG_3520.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />

<span style="color: #0b5394;">2, Cut out the pocket strips around the outer edge of the cream seam allowance.</span><span style="color: #073763;"> </span><br />
Again I used my rotary cutter but scissors are fine if you do not have a rotary cutter.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhubyHlRhAUq5i2W5lAXC5jNd8E_rfmu5Ik3YDD_ApfrghFDPcT-s_ujcxMTo3PTukoBwiYyKdFp4Wo1Y1mReNrZI9yBPNRnj7J7BOFqCK0AbSkMUp-d3Og_sVZuZ7eFrjYlie0IgGzlap3/s1600/IMG_3527.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhubyHlRhAUq5i2W5lAXC5jNd8E_rfmu5Ik3YDD_ApfrghFDPcT-s_ujcxMTo3PTukoBwiYyKdFp4Wo1Y1mReNrZI9yBPNRnj7J7BOFqCK0AbSkMUp-d3Og_sVZuZ7eFrjYlie0IgGzlap3/s320/IMG_3527.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #0b5394;">3, Press over the seam allowance on the top edge of each pocket strip and stitch.</span><br />
It doesn't give a seam allowance so it's up to you. I double folded my hem so there was no rough ends and then stitched a very narrow seam allowance.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhidfDAMfxEf2zFJ9miVWfLF8cQQ7vX-Qt1QW6k2n-yQJGxeeVHBHRTwsz8cQWtmhiPgp-LbAI_QFL5Y8j9ceBJJwWfdvNrSah7-0qFqrF8IPF3vAIfE63Q33l7pu1AOfap-L28hI7qislh/s1600/IMG_3529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhidfDAMfxEf2zFJ9miVWfLF8cQQ7vX-Qt1QW6k2n-yQJGxeeVHBHRTwsz8cQWtmhiPgp-LbAI_QFL5Y8j9ceBJJwWfdvNrSah7-0qFqrF8IPF3vAIfE63Q33l7pu1AOfap-L28hI7qislh/s320/IMG_3529.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #0b5394;">4, Make a box pleat between each pocket by bringing the sides together to meet the dotted line.</span><br />
I folded one edge first, pressed it and then did the second edge, pressed again and then I popped a pin in at the top of each pocket to keep the pleat in place.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvAt-7V7ZnHpo933iuJWkaHSb-Po6araKE2ajgXe4mwMT8F4TH8dV9ij_U4i2pglbeV4wkIIvTAQ-V8Bcs4bh6NyMlJDlvbhj2JWtq9IGtv8BxkDGCAQDXgZ7aplLFTLxEAK_O0AACRagM/s1600/IMG_3534.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvAt-7V7ZnHpo933iuJWkaHSb-Po6araKE2ajgXe4mwMT8F4TH8dV9ij_U4i2pglbeV4wkIIvTAQ-V8Bcs4bh6NyMlJDlvbhj2JWtq9IGtv8BxkDGCAQDXgZ7aplLFTLxEAK_O0AACRagM/s320/IMG_3534.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Pin each pocket stops it from moving.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOVqL5N0yYTmOeLlsNK80UbdaCiot7p5888WIKlw9PVIlS-WvJT9dVrV56ngvFp0ijGdnDr69O9IXRFCY-tfcgVdYt9repOW0US-HrhtzJo5tcDfypKHOExvSdgrn2A9jjJuRgNNgywRmc/s1600/IMG_3539.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOVqL5N0yYTmOeLlsNK80UbdaCiot7p5888WIKlw9PVIlS-WvJT9dVrV56ngvFp0ijGdnDr69O9IXRFCY-tfcgVdYt9repOW0US-HrhtzJo5tcDfypKHOExvSdgrn2A9jjJuRgNNgywRmc/s320/IMG_3539.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #0b5394;">5, Press and tack the side and bottom seam allowances on each pocket strip. </span><br />
Now I was very good and did tack, I was tempted to just leave pins in place but I was good and tacked all the strips, and I'm pleased I did as it made sewing it so much easier and stopped any major movement.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgb81pJxzkAMe0o1eEhMP7cIlstMnBcyqU8YIyHhpmZwtGeCdJ6Lu_RATtQ-30-7yAdCBNpC2Hy-CFvIHLFRGx2grLnBrlO9jh0aOSUPWaKhflJo6MzIHEahSVUvJBjzTdrj9jWuePHTRK4/s1600/IMG_3544.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgb81pJxzkAMe0o1eEhMP7cIlstMnBcyqU8YIyHhpmZwtGeCdJ6Lu_RATtQ-30-7yAdCBNpC2Hy-CFvIHLFRGx2grLnBrlO9jh0aOSUPWaKhflJo6MzIHEahSVUvJBjzTdrj9jWuePHTRK4/s320/IMG_3544.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #0b5394;">6, Pin each pocket strip to the back panel and tack in place</span><span style="color: #073763;">.</span><br />
I tacked down the middle of each pleat where the dotted line is and then down the two side ends and along the bottom. It took a while but it does make life easier in the end. I always use a thread that shows up so I can see the tack stitches.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_KmZ85roZcUXmIMY8EkdA4dbiKScvfeQk2wLfUUBWVquDzNv9evD6T5PbaN-CmKR7i_pIi7-RrtmpJvzdFuAE7_4zBIhrnhJ4k4Ir3VKi6JiEkvuE359SYI7j0vWVxOgiiZsIUhef1ktu/s1600/IMG_3545.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_KmZ85roZcUXmIMY8EkdA4dbiKScvfeQk2wLfUUBWVquDzNv9evD6T5PbaN-CmKR7i_pIi7-RrtmpJvzdFuAE7_4zBIhrnhJ4k4Ir3VKi6JiEkvuE359SYI7j0vWVxOgiiZsIUhef1ktu/s320/IMG_3545.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #0b5394;">7, Stitch the pocket strips onto the back panel</span><span style="color: #073763;">.</span><br />
To do this I first stitched down the dotted lines in between the pleats. I started at the top of each one and went backwards and forwards several times just at the top as I wanted to add some strength as the pockets will be getting lots of use! Once they are stitched I then started at top of the edge of either left or right pocket strip (it doesn't matter which) and stitched all the way down one side along the bottom and then back up the other edge of pocket strip.I took my time and made sure all my pleats lay flat so as I stitched over the bottom the pleats stayed in place.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="color: #0b5394;">8, Layer the panel with wadding to give some body and choose a co-ordinating Christmass pattern to back the panel with. Quilt the panel as desired.</span><br />
Firstly I pressed the pocket strips then removed all my tacking stitches. I used a fat quarter 55cm x 50cm to back my panel with. Placing the Fat Quarter right side face down then the wadding and the advent calendar on top face up. I put a few pins in place to stop it moving, but you can use spray or tacking stitches.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdc2s9VufOERfLSkT__cqOQqyvxuf50dRG2jR5Plb1RnDtWy7Liiu8u5u3V7chn1u2X5hH1Crv9lUa5x4nZRRXHWHcH4qcpJeSSeRfLRCka0C29AX7sSRzIr4aErjRxeNGPJQin1dxnKms/s1600/IMG_3555.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdc2s9VufOERfLSkT__cqOQqyvxuf50dRG2jR5Plb1RnDtWy7Liiu8u5u3V7chn1u2X5hH1Crv9lUa5x4nZRRXHWHcH4qcpJeSSeRfLRCka0C29AX7sSRzIr4aErjRxeNGPJQin1dxnKms/s320/IMG_3555.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I started in the middle and stitched around on the white, I decided as Phoebe my Pfaff has pretty stitches, to use a star stitch. Once all the middle was stitched I then went all around the green border.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8T-tnmnCiLTj93EoHPpmSfPc1ONKTC4vgEznOn35-aOai-iB3C1LV7PoRWfFfK6fw7MtSK5lUmbZlTidLdneuFaaT2r2bR4dpSRoG_6ctp-2ZQNqz8hocc8vxmNXs6Y0IAqowxEk4It63/s1600/IMG_3556.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8T-tnmnCiLTj93EoHPpmSfPc1ONKTC4vgEznOn35-aOai-iB3C1LV7PoRWfFfK6fw7MtSK5lUmbZlTidLdneuFaaT2r2bR4dpSRoG_6ctp-2ZQNqz8hocc8vxmNXs6Y0IAqowxEk4It63/s320/IMG_3556.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I decide red festive friends snowflake fabric would be perfect for the binding.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7_riKadfk1IaD6CiHN3oUo9yJELcapYDUAaGin7KtDozOqUezqC4kMXdxoX8bp1CmJ_IAmo79ROWQ3pH-Su_YqQzbRu1PylXduWClj7lKbhlHpnZJBBElYPqxfYC8f35D1zNpJW_q0mlz/s1600/IMG_3557.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7_riKadfk1IaD6CiHN3oUo9yJELcapYDUAaGin7KtDozOqUezqC4kMXdxoX8bp1CmJ_IAmo79ROWQ3pH-Su_YqQzbRu1PylXduWClj7lKbhlHpnZJBBElYPqxfYC8f35D1zNpJW_q0mlz/s320/IMG_3557.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I decided on 2 1/2 inch binding was wide enough. To join the binding together, place one strip face up then the other strip face down as photo.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxkTzZHFixgEBou5mFfU0TFNsa5rqDor3qE82Dt7SGWTNYBQF2xDQ5SjpKZ0dz0Pa-acrtZBIXcQK6Rzy23ksOK_sTo31XI9M_fLZvbYaDR61rBjeDgPiO-5AnMNM9CAUYHRxKIzuhs0H8/s1600/IMG_3558.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxkTzZHFixgEBou5mFfU0TFNsa5rqDor3qE82Dt7SGWTNYBQF2xDQ5SjpKZ0dz0Pa-acrtZBIXcQK6Rzy23ksOK_sTo31XI9M_fLZvbYaDR61rBjeDgPiO-5AnMNM9CAUYHRxKIzuhs0H8/s320/IMG_3558.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Draw a diagonal line across the top and mark it. I used a friction pen which will disappear with heat. Stitch on the line and trim away the excess.<br />

Fold the binding in half with wrong sides together and press.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXLgWc2PriZ3Wo_3vrsG_0ba8W8y2kV-V1sXV99oggxpUTEm_Avap-W0F7Ezxg6AfVdpTriqv_f7HBJv2Au-ORmp2jVP4tLmeWjCnhcUzx4GjgDCpeYltvFvWkaGdSBmWFc7PXGV89jx7o/s1600/IMG_3560.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXLgWc2PriZ3Wo_3vrsG_0ba8W8y2kV-V1sXV99oggxpUTEm_Avap-W0F7Ezxg6AfVdpTriqv_f7HBJv2Au-ORmp2jVP4tLmeWjCnhcUzx4GjgDCpeYltvFvWkaGdSBmWFc7PXGV89jx7o/s320/IMG_3560.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Place the binding with raw edge of binding against the raw edge of calendar. Start sewing half way down. Leaving a good few inches of binding at the start.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTpx4SZUtE6OvLxjlu0SG65F8fUSZaNNENic6xr_OXx4pUnbR5yQhX0Li-ZDb_xwlzKlpad57CYvk5FmDOuPxtPLmHzBKAMeBWfZnSjqD3MRtrYXc6ICTW10oHH6d-s5EG5FV67lDZxlCT/s1600/IMG_3561.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTpx4SZUtE6OvLxjlu0SG65F8fUSZaNNENic6xr_OXx4pUnbR5yQhX0Li-ZDb_xwlzKlpad57CYvk5FmDOuPxtPLmHzBKAMeBWfZnSjqD3MRtrYXc6ICTW10oHH6d-s5EG5FV67lDZxlCT/s320/IMG_3561.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
When you get to a corner stop. Then fold the binding up and then back over again. See photo below.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHzCcePIXFnSk5fA6no4ZNh4SHCruN1CYYN2i3YkvbriZLbhHa_U2dmskHzcNjgZcQC0vd_JIC7-dKSAQzMeAnYZJs2EPlVVQXZLDrmsEDA59cYNXNYsx5PucInba8PQG211h5evUe4Fo2/s1600/IMG_3564.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHzCcePIXFnSk5fA6no4ZNh4SHCruN1CYYN2i3YkvbriZLbhHa_U2dmskHzcNjgZcQC0vd_JIC7-dKSAQzMeAnYZJs2EPlVVQXZLDrmsEDA59cYNXNYsx5PucInba8PQG211h5evUe4Fo2/s320/IMG_3564.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Once you get to the last edge near to where you started stop. Leaving a few inches unsewn. Trim off any extra binding so the binding overlaps by two inches. Fold the bottom binding over diagonally so its at 45 degree angle. Pop a pin in place to stop it moving and then place the top binding over it and stitch in place. If you have a different way of binding then please do it your way.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha8nO9mA6hO_nR6lVNDOxvBd6-zifc-5NVC7XPVeoos3g9m4zaauol_kDcnhnPUbqFD2ZoV3wFwl1fESuxtDBvYXUjektp7u1p1_vaFzNBIkbTw4NLIuv7hal5hdVpH-7JOk0WaWrkJtbM/s1600/IMG_3565.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="214" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEha8nO9mA6hO_nR6lVNDOxvBd6-zifc-5NVC7XPVeoos3g9m4zaauol_kDcnhnPUbqFD2ZoV3wFwl1fESuxtDBvYXUjektp7u1p1_vaFzNBIkbTw4NLIuv7hal5hdVpH-7JOk0WaWrkJtbM/s320/IMG_3565.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Once the binding is all stitched, fold the binding over on to the back of the calendar and hand stitch into place. This is my favourite part of sewing. It's gentle and slow and a good chance to sit and watch some TV knowing your project is nearly finished!<br />
<br />
<span style="color: #0b5394;">9, Make loops or a sleeve along the edge of the panel to hang the finished calendar.</span><br />
<span style="color: #073763;"> </span>I decided to just sew two little loops on the back using some striped ribbon from my stash.<br />

<br />
I joined in with the Lori Holt <a href="http://beeinmybonnetco.blogspot.co.uk/">Bloom sew along</a> and Riley Blake. Lori used her beautiful Calico Days fabric and her Fab templates. I decided as usual to do things slightly different and I used Bloom and Bliss fabric as I wanted flowers flowers and flowers as it was going to be a birthday present and I knew flowers would be very much loved. Because I needed to finish it for the beginning of May, I chose Blanket Stitch applique which I did on my lovely sewing machine. It really is my favourite stitch and I find it speedier than needle turn or hand stitching applique. My lovely friend was very pleased with her birthday present.<br />

<br />I have had this rose for a few years and I adore it. It makes me smile so much. Every year it comes back and it has the sweetest smell ever.<br />We nearly didn't look at this house five years ago as I hated hated the garden. It was slabs and stones and just grey, angular and hard. I longed for softness and curves and pretty flowers and a green green lawn so after a lot of hardwork and four skips later we have the garden I want. Yippee.<br />

Anyway I thought a summer quilt and cushion would be needed in the garden so I decided to go with a seaside feel. Mermaids and fish remind me of summer and I wanted cheerful light colours<br />

Saltwater by Riley Blake was picked. I wanted to do half square triangles because I need more practice. I feel I have cracked the half square triangle blip and I want to make another quilt with just them in it. The backing was the cheat panel which I adore.<br />

I recently brought this lovely book called <a href="http://lovelylittlehandmades.blogspot.co.uk/">Lovely Little Patchwork Book</a> and following my own personal challenge to make something from all of my sewing books I selected this cushion and quilt, the cushion is a little different which is normal for me but I stuck to the instructions completely for this quilt, I love it I'm really chuffed with it.<br />

Have you been watching The Great British Sewing Bee? I love the program and I'm in awe of how they manage to make something in the time they have. I haven't got a favourite this year, I like them all, I do think Joyce and Charlotte will be in the final and possibly Jade too. I go to a sewing class on a Thursday morning and I love it, the ladies who go make me laugh so much, and I have formed some lovely friendships there.<br />

It's a reversible skirt and I love it Woodland Spring is the name of the fabric and I think it works really well together. I'm enjoying dress making and love how quick garments can be made, but I do love my patchwork and quilting more and I find like anything else the more you do the better you become and just go for it and not be scared.<br />

It has been a real mixture of emotions this month. Sadly my beloved Uncle R passed away suddenly. He was a true legend and was loved by everyone I know. His funeral was beautiful and over 300 people came to say goodbye to him. We walked behind his coffin through the village where he lived and lots of the local shops put boards out with lovely messages. It was lovely to catch up with so many folks and he would of loved it which is bittersweet. His coffin was decorated with his wisteria which had just flowered.<br />

Get me two blog posts in one week! I bought myself a wall planner and I'm getting organised now with myself! I have found since leaving nursing and working for myself I need to plan my day even more. Seeing what I need to do everyday is helping and I am trying to have fixed times working and leisure time, or should I say catching up on the housework!<br />
<br />
<br />
It's the end of the Easter holiday's and two of my lovely nieces came to stay for a few days last week.<br />
Lobster had a sewing machine for christmas and is getting more confident using it. Here she is making a lovely simple cushion cover.<br />

We discussed my book choice which was A Year of Marvellous Ways by Sarah Winman. Everyone loved the story which was so original and I loved all the characters and the setting. We find we talk more about books we don't like rather than the ones we love! The author Sarah also wrote When God was a Rabbit which I haven't read but want to, as I have heard lots of positive comments about it.<br />

My lovely friend Nikki lent me Elizabeth is Missing by Emma Healey. It is a story about a Maud a lady who has Alzheimer's. I didn't know if I would be able to read this novel as having lost my MIL to this just over a year ago I was worried it would be to close to home, however I was wrong it was a really good read, The characters were so believable and the story kept me gripped to the end.<br />

<br />
I love reading and I do have a "thing " for a good old fashioned who done it! Agatha Christie is a firm favourite of mine. I also am addicted to buying craft and sewing books, so much that I have decided that in order to keep buying books I must make something from them all! That couple of weeks I seem to have found these books falling into my shopping basket!<br />

I follow the blogs of both of these authors and again love their style so they were just a must for me too!<br />
<br />
This week has been exciting with ordering new fabrics, notions and threads for You me and Mabel. I'm so giddy about the new threads I could burst! Aurifil threads are now being stocked here. I am waiting for them to arrive any day now. I will let you know as soon as they come through the door. Yippeeeee. I first used Aurifil thread when I got sent one with the Snapshot quilt I did last year and I love them.<br />

<br />
I needed to baste some quilts this week, they have been finished ages and I really needed to start quilting them. Basting quilts is my pet hate and I found I put it off for ages, however Stu helped me baste them with Mabel watching on from the garden! I have to move the kitchen table out of the dining area and then I can tape the bottom of the quilt to the floor before adding the wadding and quilt top. I cheat and always use spray adhesive as I hate adding safety pins into my work. I do need to invest into some knee pads as my poor knees take a battering!<br />

I did not mean to be away for so long but life just got busy and sitting down to blog just never happened. Whoops!<br />
I can not believe we are at the beginning of April and Easter has been and gone and our home is full of Easter eggs. We always put up a little Easter tree and some cute decorations. I love Easter it always seems more relaxed and brighter than Christmas and not so stressed! The nights are lighter which always cheers me up and I seem to have far more energy.<br />

It's been busy at You me and Mabel, at the end of February Stu and I went off to the NEC to the trade show Stitches where we got to meet lots of lovely new suppliers. I was really nervous at first, I kept thinking someone would turn round and say "Stop" you can't come in here, you are just playing at this small business lark! Fortunately that didn't happen and we are waiting for lots of new lovely kits, patterns, threads and fabrics to arrive. Exciting.<br />

Has anyone else participating in Riley Blake Designs and Lori Holt's Bloom Sew Along? Lori is using her lovely fabric collection Calico Days but I decided to use Bloom and Bliss designed by Ellis and Higgs for Riley Blake. Lori has designed templates that really make the blocks easy to sew. I have gone slightly off piste and appliqued using my very favourite stitch Blanket stitch and my lovely sewing machine instead of needle turn applique which is hand stitched. I do want to practice needle turn applique but I have so many projects to finish I needed to crack on with this sewalong. I will blog and show you all my blocks so far soon, I have been posting them on Instagram too!<br />
<br />
<br />

Talking of sewalongs last year I joined in with The Fat Quarter Shop Sail away quilt. I sent off to America for the fabric as I couldn't wait to get started on it. It was for a really good cause too so that's how I justified buying fabric from another quilting shop!<br />

I was back again at the NEC in March for the sewing for pleasure show and I must admit I had a little spend! I was fairly good and only got things I really needed until the last half an hour when I went and brought some kits! I really do have so much to make I need to get a wriggle on and make! Am I the only one who does this or do you do this too?<br />

Mabel has been her usual happy self and has had lots of walks mostly coming back all muddy! Last week when the sun was shining we went to Beacon Hill a beautiful park which has the most amazing wood carvings placed all around the park. It has a lovely natural play ground ideal for little people to run of steam!<br />

I always try and start to get ready for Christmas early but somehow it never works out that way. I did start buying a few bits and pieces every time I did a food shop, I always look for things on offer and things that we are not going to start eating before the Christmas festivities start. So far a box of Roses chocolates and one bottle of wine have not made it to the Christmas festivities! The Christmas mugs and plate have come out of the sideboard and are now being used. I love Emma Bridgewater pottery and I am slowly building up a little collection.<br />
<br />
Last week we visited Chatsworth House (<a href="http://www.chatsworth.org/">www.chatsworth.org</a>) in Derbyshire to see the house decorated for Christmas. this year the theme is Wind on the Willows. I adore this story, it is one of my very favourites. The house was not a disappointment at all it really was magical and it really got us into the Christmas spirit. They have a new booking system so the house doesn't get to crowded when you visit. We booked our time in advance and it was worth it, no queuing and we got to have a good look at everything without feeling rushed or crushed.<br />

It is Christmas after all!<br />
<br />
Since leaving nursing and starting my little business I have been busy sewing and making lots of little things of loveliness. I had a little stall recently at a Christmas fete at a local school so I got busy and made some Christmas tree decorations. I love snowmen so I couldn't resist making some using Little Joys fabric from Penny Roses fabrics. I have a few left so I am going to add them to my new Etsy shop this week.<br />

Walking Mabel is even more of a joy, with the leaves turning colour and sun lower in the sky, I especially love it when there is a little bit of a nip in the air too. We are very lucky to live very near some stunning countryside, its just a walk up the hill and we are in fields and the walk up to the woods is one of our favourite walks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<br />
Mabel loves it even more if she can find something smelly to roll in, which she did last Friday which resulted in her having to have a bath. As you can see from then the photo she was not impressed! I had a Fitbit for my birthday and it really does motivate me to get my 10,000 steps in daily. I have challenges with my friends too so that gets me moving even more!<br />
<br />

I love all the different colours the leaves are turning and Mabel loves rolling in them!<br />

<br />
Life has been very busy here. I recently completed a commission and I am hoping it is received warmly, I always get very shy about my own work and always see things I could improve on. I don't have a lot of self confidence with my own work, I know I should but I do find it difficult to be more forgiving of my work. I have been putting more cushion kits together too and I have to admit sitting down and writing the instructions and photographing as I make a sample up is slowly getting easier.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I would just love to be able to just sew daily but I do need to make a living so I am getting more organized! lots of new fabric has come in recently and its all gorgeous, Bloom and Bliss by Riley Blake is just beautiful and its just asking to be made into quilts. I am going to be putting some bundles together and also pre-cuts, as I think pre-cuts are really good if you want a little of everything and you want to make a project quickly. Christmas has come to You me and Mabel, we are stocking Little Joys by Elea Lutz for Riley Blake and Santa Express which is really happy and colourful.<br />

One of my lovely neighbours has got the quilting bug and she made this beautiful quilt for her sofa. She loved the Gentle Forest collection from Studio E and we added some Riley Blake Flutterberry Green to it which really brings out the colours and on the back Riley Blake dots on a brown background. I love putting fabrics together and seeing how adding one fabric can really make all the other ones "POP" It is just one of my very favourite things to do.<br />

Well lots of fireworks are going off outside as its the Saturday after Guy Fawkes night, some are really pretty. Mabel isn't the least bit bothered by them which is good, Hubby said "well she is a gun dog!" Hope you are all having a good autumn and enjoying all the colours and sounds it brings.<br />

<br />
Then on Saturday we were off to the fantastic Festival of Quilts at the NEC.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
This is my favourite show, full of beautiful quilts made by very talented folk and hundreds of fantastic stands selling everything and anything you could possibly need. I was very good and only brought four fat quarters from the lovely Messy Jessie's stand, some oil cloth and I am going to do a block of the month by the very clever Lynette Anderson. It's called a dog's life and surprise surprise it's dog related! Oh and I did also buy two lights, one for downstairs and one for upstairs. I did indulged in the very clever Janet Clare's new book The Wordsmith. It is such a beautiful book with lots of amazing and inspiring photos. I had my photo taken with her which was lovely except it did show how much fat I need to lose!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I did take a few photos of my favourite quilts but it was difficult to take them as lots were surrounded by people marvelling at them and how wonderful the stitching was. The photos are not the best as I forgot my camera so had to make do with my phone. So I apologize for not doing justice to the quilts and the very talented quilters.<br />

This amazing quilt was the winner in the Traditional category and each piece of fabric is a tiny 1/4 inch and there was hundreds of tiny log cabins, it makes you wonder how long it took to make. </div>

The best things about the Festival of Quilts is the wonderful quilts and fabrics available which are just so inspiring, the people who go to the show, quilters are the friendliest people in the world, always so helpful and chatty. The worst thing is I always leave and the next day think oh I wish I had brought this, that and the other!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Well I need to start sewing now so I will say cheerio.</div>

I recently got some shelves / drawers from a local Laura Ashley shop that was closing down and I decided it was time to sort out all my scrap fabric into a more organised way. I took example from the talented Lori B Holt and I cut them all up into either different size strips or squares, with the view I would use them rather than just let them sit all messy in a scrap basket. They all do look neat however I still have ended up with a scrap basket! I will sort it out soon.<br />

I am off to the festival of the quilts this weekend and I am looking forward to seeing all the quilts plus having a little shop too. I am going to try and resist buying lots of fabric, because I have enough in my personal collection to last me about ten years plus now starting our little online shop You, Me and Mabel I have bolts of beautiful fabric I can just go and look at and stroke whenever I want. However I do love seeing what you lovely folk order and make out of the fabrics. I have a lovely friend who puts together I wouldn't normally choose yet they always look fab and work brilliantly together. I think the secret is being brave. Well need to go now as I have sewing instructions to write up for a kit. Thank you Sally Sally of You,me and Mabelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09002553536109061241noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1804573083623549493.post-51545417305476933722015-07-29T10:19:00.000-07:002015-07-29T10:19:00.841-07:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Hello, I have finally got round to blogging, its only taken about 6 years to do it! I am Sally, and have said goodbye to nursing and I am following my dream of working in the world of sewing, fabric, patchwork and quilting. I sew everyday and decided after twenty years of nursing to try a fresh start. I have the wonderful support of my husband Stu and we have a lovely little cocker spaniel Mabel, hence the name of our online fabric shop</span><div>
